| this weeks finds |
[July 11 2009] |
I'm really excited about a few of these and no one else gets it so I'm happy to share here.
Old Books from Peninsula Rescue Mission Thrift Store $2 for all. I went to a new thrift store called Morning Star Thrift Store. The place was really junky (and kinda smelled funny) but they had so many old books (it was like a book graveyard!) and a ton of vintage suitcases (I got the trunk though). I was a little worried that they were going to charge me a ton for the things I picked out (because they were price at the counter) but the guy said $7.35 for the four books and my trunk and I was like SOLD! If I hadn't been so excited to pay for my stuff and get it in my car I probably would have bought a TON more books. Note I found tucked inside Modern Biology.

| Auto mechanic recommendations |
[July 11 2009] |
I need to get the drive belts on my '02 Nissan Frontier replaced this upcoming week. Does anyone have any recommendations on who to use or who to avoid? The last place I went to, Stark & Russell, has had its phone disconnected. If anyone know what happened to them, I'd be interested in knowing, since I liked that place.

i don't live in gainesville anymore, but i have a friend who is looking into gateway at gainesville apartments. it sounded sketchy when he was describing it to me, so i was wondering if anyone on here had any experience with it personally? it was lower than 50% on apartmentratings.com, but that's not a very intimate source...

| anyone looking for a room mate? |
[July 10 2009] |
|
I was going to move in with someone, but a deal went sour so i don't have a place to stay. I don't know any girls in Gainesville...only my boyfriends friends which are all guys. So if anyone knows any girls looking for a room mate and can tolerate having a 5ft. iguana and a snake in their apartment i would appreciate it.

I just bought a Macbook Pro at the beginning of this month and got the free 8 Gig iPod Touch. Seeing as how I already have a perfectly good iPod (and need no further reasons to procrastinate/forget about my homework) I'm looking to sell this iPod Touch.
It has 90 days of warranty, a year of "Parts & Labor", and it has not been taken out of the case that Apple sells their iPod's in. I am hoping to sell it to someone in the Gainesville area so I dont have to deal with shipping and Ebay and all that.

| I've Been Inspired |
[July 10 2009] |
Today I sat at my station's front desk listening to the lonely silence of no phone calls. I was flipping through the July issue of Real Simple when I came across the feature article titled: "Five women and their style muses, p. 150". This article contained a few paragraphs about different authors like a normal feature, but shorter. It also provided beautiful black and white portraits of each lady reflecting their true nature in some way. In a way, no matter how simple these women may claim to be to their friends and partners, they were still beautiful in their unique fashion.
It happened during weather. I put my magazine down and stared at our weather man's new hair cut. My thought process was rather quick and sudden during this moment. In fact, before I know it, I was tweeting it. It's been forever since I've said this and meant it, but... I'm on the verge of something amazing.
Nicole's Thought Process: "I wonder how many authors we have in town that would work well for a feature like that? I wonder who I could get to publish it if I did it. Screw that, maybe I should just do it myself. Track them down and coordinate it myself. Photograph it myself. Write it myself. Post it to... Not my own blog. I need something bigger and better. I will create a new blog. Start over. A real site. I could find people all over Spokane from different walks of life. Business owners, musicians, gardeners, good-doers, punk kids... everybody. Whose going to be my first person?" Now I can't stop thinking about it. I'm staring at my script for Sunday's episode of Save the Moon and somehow I have to finish that before I do anything else. This is torture!
This will be for the community of Spokane to show people outside of our snow globe that we've got something amazing here to share with the world. I'll let you guys know how this idea unfolds.

| OPENING TONIGHT: Peter Pan at the Gainesville Community Playhouse! |
[July 10 2009] |
Peter Pan at the Gainesville Community Playhouse at the Vam York Theater; 4039 NW 16th Blvd, near Publix
First produced on Broadway with Mary Martin and Cyril Richard, and more recently a major hit starring Cathy Rigby, Peter Pan is one of the world's most celebrated musicals. Here is all the charm of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the Darling children Wendy, Michael and John, pirates and Indians, embellished with show-stopping songs, including Never Never Land, I Won't Grow Up and I'm Flying.
Directed by Playhouse veteran Erin Kleim, this production features elaborate sets and costumes, dazzling choreography and some of the best talent in Gainesville. Additionally, Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John will be airborne thanks to Flying by Foy, the company that’s been making Peter Pan fly since 1950, and a gracious donation by Mary Ruth Elfe.
This production of Peter Pan promises to be a delight for children of all ages. We recommend that you get your tickets early— sellout crowds are expected! Tickets are $16 and are available at the Book Gallery West (located in the Millhopper Shopping Plaza next door to the playhouse, phone: 352-371-1234, open Mon - Sat 9 am - 9 pm., Sunday 11 am - 6 pm).
Student rush tickets are just $10 and are available at the door beginning one-half hour before curtain for every performance that has seating available— not just on Wednesdays! Please be prepared to show student ID if you are not obviously of school-going age.
Founded in 1927, the Gainesville Community Playhouse is one of the Southeast's oldest and most respected community theaters, and is entirely run by the community, for the community. Phone 352-376-4949 or visit gcplayhouse.org to see a show, or get involved in making one happen!
Don’t miss this magical night of flight! Come away with us to Never Never Land-- we look forward to seeing you there!

| Help? |
[July 10 2009] |
I feel like such an idiot, but I'm desperate. I'm interning at a firm, and my boss asked me a simple request. She's meeting with a man named Gary Musaga for lunch on Monday, and apparently the man was part of a supreme court case. She wanted me to pull his case so they could talk about it during lunch.
My google_fu is failing me, because I cannot find any Supreme Court case where Musaga was a party. (California or US Supreme Court, doesn't make a difference for me.)
Any suggestions for where I should look?
ETA: Found it! Thanks to the wonderful people here at livejournal!

| For Sale |
[July 10 2009] |
Sorry, I know this community gets slammed with for sale posts, but I have some things I want to get rid of that aren't fitting for a yard sale. I have a dress form; sewing machine with sewing basket and tools; a film SLR with case and batteries; and a guitar with case, some strings, and tuner.

The Good News: I found my camera charger! (... it was still plugged in to the outlet where I last charged the battery. *sigh*)
The Better News: More pictures! I went to four of the five Goodwills in the area yesterday (the fifth is... icky) and have also been frequenting a couple of resale shops, a used book store, and this inexpensive little antique store I'd never been to before. So I have a lot to share... ;D
